Tsedal AI is an AI coding agent and assistant for your editor, available now for Visual Studio Code, with Visual Studio, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode, Eclipse and Azure Data Studio coming soon. It brings models from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google and DeepSeek into your editor, priced in Ethiopian birr.
Why we're building it
The best AI coding tools are priced in US dollars and need an international card, which keeps many developers in Ethiopia out. We think they should have the same tools as anyone, paid for the way they pay for everything else. So Tsedal AI is built and run from Addis Ababa, and paid plans will be priced and paid in birr.
Our name
ፀዳል (tsedal) is Amharic for radiance, the light around something bright. Our mark is that light bursting outward from an open halo.
How we handle your code
A coding assistant sees your code, so trust matters. Here is what happens to it:
- We never store your prompts, code or the answers. We keep only a usage record: when a request happened, which level answered and how large it was.
- Each request is sent over an encrypted connection to the AI model that answers it, from one of the providers named in our terms.
- Files you upload to attach are kept for up to 30 days so you can reuse them, then deleted. You can delete them sooner.
- In Agent mode, every change is shown as a diff you accept or reject, and you choose which actions need your approval.
Where to get it
Tsedal AI is published on the official VS Code Marketplace, so VS Code verifies and updates it for you. It's free during the private beta; request access to get your key.
